Treehouses for the 9 to 5

Every day around the world, millions of people set off early in the morning for work. They travel by bike, car, bus, tube and train. They make their way through crowded streets and endless road works, covering hundreds of miles of railway track and crisscrossing the country as they go. They then spend the day in soulless grey buildings, pushing pens, counting paperclips and watching the time tick slowly by.

Here at Treehouse Life we're happy to report that we certainly don't have this problem. Our working life is as interesting and varied as it's probably possible to get.

From week-to-week we never know where we'll end up next. We might be creating a luxury resort on the sun-kissed island of Ibiza, or building a medieval fortress in the wilds of the Scottish highlands. We could be creating childhood magic for a little girl in Surrey or making 200 dreams come true at a school in Cornwall.

So yes, we certainly know how lucky we are to be able to set off each day with a spring in our step and a grin on our face. We get to work alongside Mother Nature (and some fabulous clients) and spend our time baking in the sun - or, if we're being slightly more realistic, paddling around in the rain. Not that we'd ever really complain about the weather, it's all par for the course when your office is the great outdoors.

So with that in mind, and knowing how fortunate we are, we often wonder is it really possible to put a price on imagination and creativity in the workplace? According to a recent survey conducted amongst business delegates for conferencing, it is. When asked to describe their perfect place to hold a meeting and inspire imagination, creativeness and blue-sky thinking in business, the top response came back as "In a treehouse".

Now it might well seem like a rather unrealistic and far-fetched idea to hold your business meetings up a tree, but if you think about it for a minute more, it actually makes perfect common (and business) sense. If you can put aside the rather laughable image that immediately springs to mind - that of a bunch of suited and booted business men all sat round on upturned wooden crates, then you might just see what benefits tree top brainstorming could bring to your team.

Simply put, for most people, the very idea of a treehouse evokes happy childhood memories and images of laughter, fun and a simpler life. Granted, business isn't really about having fun, but surely anything that helps to relax and lower the stress level of those on your payroll must be a good thing.

So, now image taking your business meeting out of that boring grey box (also known as an office) and holding them in your very own handcrafted treehouse. Of course when we say treehouse, we are of course talking about the ultimate modern tree top dwelling, complete with proper stairs, windows, doors, lighting and that all-important coffee machine plugged in at the wall. And, no, there's not an upturned crate in sight.

Whether you're looking for somewhere to gather the team each morning, a place to 'Wow' the clients or even a quiet retreat to escape and talk tactics, your new treehouse HQ could offer  your business the perfect place to plug in your laptops, read your emails and get that first caffeine fix of the day.

And on top of all of that, just being able to climb up into the trees and escape the restraints of life on the ground, might just get those creative juices flowing and kick start the imaginations of even the most straight-laced businessman at the table.

At Treehouse Life we certainly believe that every 'thinking' business could benefit from their very own treehouse - a world away from everyday life that helps to make the daily grind of the 9 to 5 that little bit more fun.
